Every week there’s a fresh selection of content to be found across streaming services. Whether a title has bounced from one service to another, or is hitting streaming for the first time, it can be tough to keep track of what is available. So, this week (7/19 – 7/25) I’ll highlight some of the biggest movies & television shows heading to a service near you, including Netflix’s upcoming Masters of the Universe: Revelation and Vince Vaughn’s Freaky.
Check ’em out:
One of Quentin Tarantino’s finest films, depending on who you ask, will head to Netflix later this week. Django Unchained, which was first released back in 2012, is an ultra-violent western starring Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz as a bounty hunting duo. The pair is hellbent on rescuing Django Freeman’s (Jamie Foxx) wife from cruel plantation owner Calvin J. Candie, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Check out Tarantino’s take on the classic western with Django Unchained this Friday, July 23rd, when it will become digitally available on Netflix.
Behind The Attraction
Behind the Attraction is an upcoming Disney+ original show that dives into the history of Disney Parks’ most famous rides. The series features guest star Dwayne Johnson, who helped produce, as he shares his childhood memories of Disneyland. Notable attractions that have their own episodes include Jungle Cruise, Star Tours, Haunted Mansion, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and more. Check out the first four episodes of Behind the Attraction when they release on Disney+ Tuesday, July 20th.
Playing with Sharks: The Valerie Taylor Story
On the heels of Shark Week, Disney+ is releasing Playing with Sharks: The Valerie Taylor Story, a documentary that follows shark fanatic and Australian icon Valerie Taylor. The famous diver is known for her scientific work in addition to her contributions to cinematography. Over the course of her career Taylor worked on some of the biggest aquatic films, including Spielberg’s Jaws. Needless to say, she knows a thing or two about sharks. If you aren’t too afraid of the Deep Blue Sea, be sure to check out Playing with Sharks: The Valerie Taylor Story on Disney+ when it releases digitally this Thursday, July 22nd.
The last few years have been good for the horror genre. One of the more impressive entires of late was 2020’s Freaky, which stars Kathryn Newton as Millie Kessler, a 17-year-old girl who magically switches bodies with a serial killer, played by none other than Vince Vaughn. We’ve got body-swap movie meets 80’s slasher flick with a bit of Vince Vaughn comedy sprinkled in for good measure. Check out this fun little horror romp on HBOMax, when Freaky hits the service this Friday, July 23rd.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation
He-Man is back, baby! Well, he will be on Thursday. Later this week Netflix will release the highly anticipated He-Man adaptation. This isn’t the Masters of the Universe from your childhood, though. This time around there is an all-star cast attached, including Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Lena Headey (of Game of Thrones) and Chris Wood as He-Man himself. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that Kevin Smith wrote, directed and produced Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Fans can revisit Eternia this Thursday, July 22nd when Masters of the Universe: Revelation is released on Netflix.
