Right now, audiences are living through a golden age of streaming. Every week there’s a plethora of new content released across a number of online services. Whether you’ve got the big hitters, such as Netflix and HBOMax, or the more niche catalogues, such as The Criterion Channel, there’s almost always something new to watch. So, I’ve gone through and highlighted some of the biggest movies & TV shows coming to streaming this week, including James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad & Marvel Studios: Legends.

Vivo – Netflix

Lin-Manuel Miranda has been on one heck of a hot streak over the last few years. Fresh off his successful stage run as Alexander Hamilton, the director/actor has started to branch out into the big screen. Recently, he’s debuted a film adaptation of In The Heights and even worked on the Star Wars franchise. His latest foray into film is something a little different, though. Vivo is an upcoming animated feature that stars Miranda as a Kinkajou, a tropical rain forest mammal, named Vivo. When Vivo’s friend Andrés tragically passes away, he sets out to deliver one final song for his friend. Catch Lin-Manuel Miranda’s upcoming animated feature Vivo on Netflix this Friday, August 6th.

The Paper Tigers – Netflix

The Paper Tigers is a martial arts flick by first-time director Tran Quoc Bao. Paper Tigers follows three washed-up Karate prodigies who reunite to avenge the murder of their master. While juggling their fatherly responsibilities, jobs and old grudges, the trio find out that seeking revenge isn’t as easy as they thought. Although The Paper Tigers is current available for rent via most retailers, you can watch it on Netflix this Friday, August 6th when it premiers on the platform.

Val – Prime Video

Val Kilmer, a long-time Hollywood icon, has documented his life via video and film for over forty years. Val is a biographical documentary that operates as the culmination of thousands of hours of footage amassed by the actor. In light of his recent battle with throat cancer, Val offers viewers an intimate look at Kilmer’s life, legacy and struggles experienced over the last four decades. Watch Val on Prime Video this Thursday, August 5th.

Marvel Studios: Legends – Disney+

Marvel has mastered the art of weaving multiple complex story lines into one cohesive structure. Marvel Studios: Legends is another key piece in setting the stage for the future of the MCU. The nine part series offers viewers a deep dive into the history and future of some of the most popular Marvel characters. There’s dedicated episodes on fan favorites such as Loki, Black Widow and more. Check out Marvel Studios: Legends on Disney+ right now.

The Suicide Squad – HBOMax

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is one of the biggest releases of the summer. This semi-sequel/semi-reboot of 2016’s Suicide Squad has been met with rave reviews from critics ahead of its wide release later this week. That’s no surprise, considering James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Brightburn) directed the villainous flick. While The Suicide Squad features returning cast members such as Margot Robbie and Viola Davis, there’s plenty of new faces this time around. John Cena, Idris Elba and Michael Rooker are a few of the bigger names attached. The only question is: will everyone survive? Find out when The Suicide Squad premiers on HBOMax Wednesday, August 4th.
