Synopsis

The movie takes place in a fictional kingdom wherein magic and early 20th-century technology coexist alongside a conflict with another kingdom. We are introduced to a girl named Sophie Hatter, who is a young, modest girl who, along with her sisters and mother, manages a hat shop in her neighborhood. Sophie is cursed by the Witch of the Waste and transforms into an old woman, unable to communicate her suffering to anybody. The Witch of the Waste cursed Sophie because she was envious of Howl’s attention or involvement with Sophie. Sophie subsequently runs to the hills where moving castle prowls since she cannot work at her mother’s hat shop due to her condition and embarrassment. The moving castle is rumored to be the property of Howl, a young, handsome, and powerful wizard, but Sophie manages to sneak into his castle anyway. When Sophie eventually enters the castle, she befriends the fire demon Calcifer, who serves as the castle’s power source, is contractually obligated to Howl and makes the agreement to assist Sophie in reversing the curse and returning to youth. This agreement states that Calcifer will break the curse in exchange for Sophie’s assistance removing the magic that binds him to the castle. However, Sophie decides to not do it and tries to learn more about the contract through other constructive and better approaches. The castle is also dirty, and in response to Calcifer’s frustration with the castle’s filth, Sophie introduces herself as the new cleaning staff member. She does many things here for everyone, including cleaning the castle and caring for them, which subsequently leads to stronger bonds between them all. And as the effort to break the spell progressed throughout time, numerous secrets, particularly those involving Howl, came to light. As a result, Sophie now finds herself defending both of them from a dangerous sorcery war that is endangering their world.
