Weekend Streaming Box Office: Coming 2 America & Ted Lasso rise to the top

This weekend saw the release of the highly anticipated Coming 2 America, and thanks in part to Amazon’s ingenious PR push that began in early February — Coming 2 America was the #1 most-watched movie among Reelgood users in the United States from March 5-7, 2021, while Coming to America rose to the fourth spot.

But perhaps more impressive is the fact that the sequel starring Eddie Murphy outperformed titles like Wonder Woman 1984, Soul, and Borat 2 in terms of streaming and engagement shares during ‘opening weekend’. More specifically, Coming 2 America opened to a 6% share of engagement vs. Wonder Woman 1984‘s 4% — which was the strongest opening weekend performance on any SVoD platform in the entire Q4 of 2020.

Meanwhile, following Jason Sudeikis’s recent Golden Globes win and other nominations for the Apple TV+ original — Ted Lasso made a spectacular comeback as the 4th most-watched TV show via Reelgood this weekend across all U.S. streaming services, ranking alongside titles like WandaVision, Pacific Rim: The Black, Debris, Murder Among the Mormons, and more.
