When does The Great Season 3 come out?

Mark your calendars, as The Great season 3 is set to debut on Hulu on Friday, May 12, ending a year-and-a-half hiatus since season 2. Staying true to its format, all 10 episodes of the third season will be readily accessible from day one. However, the availability of The Great Season 3 for UK viewers remains uncertain at this time.

What do we know about the plot of The Great Season 3?

As Season 2 of The Great concluded, Catherine and Peter found themselves in a continuous struggle for power, despite Catherine’s confession of her feelings and the birth of their son, Paul. Upon discovering Peter’s affair with her mother, Catherine’s fury leads her to stab a peasant impersonating Peter, revealing her capacity to kill her husband. This revelation certainly doesn’t bode well for their marriage as we head into Season 3.

In Season 2, Catherine successfully staged a coup but chose to keep Peter under house arrest, rather than kill him. As she attempted to legitimize her rule and bring new ideas to Russia, their relationship became increasingly complex. Both Catherine’s and Peter’s allies sought to eliminate the other, ultimately leading to Catherine imprisoning Peter’s friends, including Marial.

The upcoming Season 3 will explore the couple’s attempts to salvage their marriage amidst the challenges they’ve faced. As Peter copes with his new role as First Husband, he is haunted by his late father’s expectations. Meanwhile, Catherine seeks to make a name for herself internationally, inspired by a visit from the US ambassador. She organizes a conference for various stakeholders in Russia’s future, learning the importance of compromise in effective leadership.

With the royal couple navigating their tumultuous relationship and respective roles, Season 3 promises to delve deeper into the challenges they face while governing Russia. As the tension between them remains, the duo will need to find a way to work together for the betterment of their country. The upcoming season will be filled with intrigue, power struggles, and the undeniable chemistry between Catherine and Peter, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.

Who will be in the cast in Season 3 of The Great?

The Great’s talented ensemble, led by Elle Fanning as Catherine the Great and Nicholas Hoult as Peter III of Russia, will return for Season 3. Phoebe Fox reprises her role as Catherine’s best friend, Marial, while Adam Godley returns as the debaucherous Archbishop Archie. With Marial’s imprisonment at the end of Season 2, will Catherine forgive or forget her friend? Archie’s journey to find his faith continues as well.

Additional returning cast members include Gwilym Lee and Charity Wakefield as Grigor and Georgina Dymov, Peter’s closest friends; Douglas Hodge as the boisterous General Velementov; Sacha Dhawan as the bureaucratic Orlo; Bayo Gbadamosi as Arkady; and Belinda Bromilow as the comically eccentric Aunt Elizabeth.

Elle Fanning, known for her roles in Somewhere, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Maleficent, previously earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Catherine. Nicholas Hoult, who first gained recognition in About a Boy, has since appeared in Skins, X-Men: First Class, and Mad Max: Fury Road. He also received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in The Great.

As we eagerly await Season 3, fans can look forward to the return of this stellar cast, bringing their exceptional Emmy-winning performances and engaging storylines back to the screen.
