Spike Lee is having a pretty good month, you guys. BlacKkKlansman hit theaters on the 10th of August and is pulling in a 95% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Not bad at all. But this isn’t the first time that this legendary director has wowed audiences.

If you are jonesing for a Spike Lee marathon, here are a few of our favorite Spike Lee joints to keep you satisfied:

  1. Oldboy

Starring Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen, this 2013 thriller is a remake of a 2003 Korean film. Oldboy is about a man who is abducted and imprisoned for 20 years after the death of his wife. When his captor releases him, he is determined to get revenge.

  1. Inside Man

Jodie Foster, Clive Owen and Denzel Washington star in this 2006 heist film about a bank robbery that turns into a dangerous hostage situation.

  1. Malcolm X

In this 1992 biopic, Denzel Washington stars as Malcolm X, the controversial leader of the struggle for black liberation. One of Lee and Washington’s most iconic films, this powerful film is not one to miss.

  1. Chi-Raq

Nick Cannon, John Cusack and Teyonah Parris star in this 2015 Spike Lee picture. The girlfriend of a Chicago gang leader persuades other women to withhold sex as a means to convince their men to end the gang’s senseless acts of violence.

  1. Miracle at St. Anna

After a soldier risks his life to save an innocent kid, four soldiers from the U.S. Army’s all-black division are trapped behind enemy lines. Derek Luke, Michael Ealy, Laz Alonso, and Omar Benson Miller star.

  1. 25th Hour

Monty Brogan (played by Edward Norton) is preparing himself and his loved ones for a 7-year stint in prison. It’s his last night on earth, so-to-speak, and he intends to spend it with his friends and loved ones. Probably my favorite film on the list, it’s much better than the trailer would have you believe.

  1. Summer of Sam

In 1977, David Berkowitz (Son of Sam killer) terrorized the city of New York, as no one knows when the killer will strike next or who the killer may be. When a blackout plunges the city into darkness during the dog days of summer, tensions and paranoia rise.

  1. Do the Right Thing

A local Italian eatery comes under scrutiny when a customer notices that it features only Italian actors on its walls. Believing the restaurant, situated in a black neighborhood, should feature black actors as well, he gets the community involved. The film stars Spike Lee, Rosie Perez, and Danny Aiello.
