The Promise: Finding My Mother’s Killer Synopsis
In 1989, Effie Entezari was brutally shot outside her apartment complex, leaving her family devastated and searching for answers. Police arrested and convicted her estranged husband, Mike Entezari, despite the absence of physical evidence linking him to the murder. Mike subsequently spent 25 years in prison, while his daughter, Pooneh Entezari, remained convinced that her father was innocent. Refusing to accept the official verdict, Pooneh made a powerful promise to her murdered mother: she would discover who really killed her. Over the following 35 years, she dedicated enormous amounts of time and money to investigating the crime, uncovering troubling questions about the original investigation. Her relentless pursuit eventually led to a dramatic DNA breakthrough pointing toward Viktor Pell, a former trained killer. Through emotional testimony and shocking discoveries, the documentary explores how one daughter’s determination challenged a decades-old murder conviction.
