A Killer Story Synopsis
A Killer Story is a 2026 American true crime documentary miniseries directed by Matthew Galkin. The three-part HBO series follows investigative journalist Joe Sexton as he spends six years examining the case of Dana Chandler, who was accused of killing her ex-husband and his girlfriend in Kansas in 2002.
Sexton becomes involved after receiving thousands of emails from Eileen Umbehr, a homemaker turned citizen sleuth who, along with her husband Keen Umbehr, believes Chandler was wrongly convicted. As the investigation continues, the series looks at conflicting accounts, family disputes, prosecutorial misconduct, confirmation bias and the difficulty of determining what really happened in a case that stretched across more than two decades.
