Amber Heard is an American actress who has been in the limelight since her breakout role in 2004’s Friday Night Lights. She has gone on to have a successful career as an actor, appearing in various films and television series. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of Amber Heard’s most notable movies and discuss why she is highly regarded as an actor.
The Rum Diary (2011)
The Rum Diary is a comedy-drama based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson. Amber Heard plays Chenault, the love interest of the main character Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp). The movie follows Kemp’s adventures in Puerto Rico as he works for a struggling newspaper and falls for Chenault. Amber performs great like Chenault, and her chemistry with Johnny Depp is undeniable.
Drive Angry (2011)
Drive Angry is an action-horror directed by Patrick Lussier. It stars Nicolas Cage as Milton, who drives out of Hell to save his granddaughter from being sacrificed by a Satanic cult led by Jonah King (Billy Burke). Amber plays Piper, Milton’s trusted partner-in-crime, who helps him along his mission. Despite the cheesy plot, Amber effortlessly brings her character to life with her passionate performance and makes it believable without going over the top.
The Danish Girl (2015)
The Danish Girl is a biographical drama directed by Tom Hooper and starring Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander. It follows the story of Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe (Redmayne), one of the first recipients of gender reassignment surgery, and his wife Gerda Wegener (Vikander). Amber plays Ulla Paulson, Gerda’s friend who encourages her painting career and supports her during Einar’s transition into Lili Elbe. Her role was small, but she managed to make it memorable with her compassionate yet straightforward portrayal of Ulla Paulson.
Magic Mike XXL (2015)
Magic Mike XXL is the sequel to Steven Soderbergh’s 2012 film Magic Mike starring Channing Tatum as male stripper “Magic Mike” Lane. In this installment, Mike reunites with former Kings of Tampa members for one last road trip performance to Myrtle Beach before retiring from stripping permanently. Amber plays Zoe, who joins them on their journey after bonding with Mike at their Florida gig earlier that night. Although Zoe isn’t given much screen time or backstory, Heard does a great job making Zoe lovable and sympathetic despite all odds against her character doing so quickly in such a short amount of time.
Aquaman (2018)
Aquaman was one of DC Comics’ most successful superhero films, directed by James Wan, starring Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman. Amber plays Mera, Aquaman’s love interest, who is trying to help him become king to prevent war between two underwater kingdoms. Her powerful performance adds depth to Mera’s character that would have otherwise been missing due to a lack of development in the script.
Justice League(2017)
Justice League was another DC Comics superhero film directed by Zack Snyder which follows Batman(Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman(Gal Gadot), Flash(Ezra Miller), Aquaman(Jason Momoa), Cyborg(Ray Fisher), Superman(Henry Cavill) teaming up together against Steppenwolf trying to take over Earth. In this movie, Heard plays Mera again. However, this time around, she has more development and screen time than Aquaman, giving us more insight into her character. She also had better chemistry with Jason Momoa than usual, making their scenes even better. As expected, she did very well playing Mera once again. Bonus: Watch Batman movies in order
Bonus: The Playboy Club (2011)
Amber Heard also stars in the 2011 drama The Playboy Club, set in 1960s Chicago, which follows workers’ lives at the original Playboy Club. Rising ‘Bunny’ Maureen (Heard) struggles to balance her personal ambitions against the restrictive rules imposed upon her by Hugh Hefner’s club. Amber Heard brings an edge and charisma to her character and shines amongst a formidable cast – including Eddie Cibrian, Sanaa Lathan, and Laura Benanti. The film provides an interesting historical snapshot of a time gone by, highlighting societal expectations placed on ambitious women and the issues that arise when attempts are made to defy those expectations.
Amber Heard has had quite an impressive acting career so far! From portraying complex characters like Chenault in The Rum Diary or Ulla Paulson in The Danish Girl, all the way up through comic book characters like Mera in both Aquaman and Justice League—Amber Heard has proven herself capable of taking on any role thrown at her no matter how challenging or diverse it may be! Kudos must also be given for taking risks throughout her career; she was never afraid to take chances on projects that might seem unconventional or untested!
