70 Up Synopsis
70 Up is a 2026 British documentary series directed by Asif Kapadia and the final chapter of the long-running Up documentary project, which began with 7 Up in 1964. The series returns to participants including Nicholas Hitchon, Tony Walker, John Brisby, Bruce Balden, Jackie Bassett and others at the age of 70, looking back at how their lives have developed since they were first filmed as seven-year-old children from different social and economic backgrounds across Britain.
The original documentary was designed to explore British society and class by asking whether a person’s future could already be seen in childhood. More than six decades later, 70 Up revisits the group in their seventies and reflects on their families, careers, relationships, personal choices and experiences of growing older while comparing their lives today with the children viewers first met in 1964.
