Now that the kids are back in school and you’ve used up most of your vacation, it’s perfectly understandable if you’re just in the mood for some good fall TV right now. Unfortunately, it’s going to be a few more weeks before our favorites like American Horror Story and This Is Us return.
Thankfully, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and HBO aren’t slacking on bringing you the fresh content you need almost as much as your morning coffee! This week brings a new animated sitcom from Matt Groening, the second season of an underrated horror comedy, two premieres of critically-acclaimed HBO shows, and an original dark comedy film from Amazon starring David Oyelowo.
Fall TV is coming, but even without an avalanche of premieres, there’s plenty to watch on the top streamers this week!

The Simpsons‘ creator Matt Groening is the creator behind this medieval animated series. Centered around a princess who decides to do her own thing (but in a way that’s way less Disney than you’re imagining), the series will have Game of Thrones jokes, coming of age fun, and voice work from Broad City‘s Abbi Jacobson. It’s definitely not one to miss.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
Netflix has been killing it in the rom-com game this summer, and their streak appears to be poised to continue. Based on the YA novel of the same name, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before looks like the nostalgic teen rom-com fans of She’s All That and 10 Things I Hate About You will love. The film is centered around a young woman who writes letters to boys she has crushes on. When those letters are mailed without her permission, her new school year gets a whole lot more interesting.
Magic for Humans
This lighthearted series finds magician Justin Willman baffling everyday people with his illusions. Magic for Humans appears to be the perfect show to unwind and laugh with at the end of a long day.

Minding the Gap
Perro Amor: Complete Series
Stan Against Evil: Complete Season 2
Our Picks:
Starring Stranger Things‘ Charlie Heaton, Marrowbone is the type of horror movie that creeps up on you. Four siblings move to a remote manor in the hopes of staying together after the death of their parents, but it’s not long before it becomes clear that something sinister is lurking in their home.
The second season of this underrated horror comedy is even better than the last. Stan is once again tasked with fighting the forces of evil in his small town, but this time the stakes are higher and the gags are funnier.
Amazon

Avoiding Apocalypse: Season 1
The Stinky & Dirty Show: Season 2B — Prime Original Series
I Am Not Lorena
Aug. 16
Aug. 17
Gringo — Prime Original movie
Our Picks:
A case of mistaken identity spirals out of control in this suspenseful thriller about a normal young woman who is hounded by debt collectors who are looking for someone else entirely.
David Oyelowo plays a middle management man who is kidnapped in Mexico after his employers get on the wrong side of the cartel. And yes, it’s a comedy.
HBO
Aug. 12
Ballers: Season 4 Premiere
Insecure: Season 3 Premiere
Aug. 18
Our Picks:
Dwayne Johnson’s series about the lives of former and current football players is back, and it’s way past time to start watching.

Insecure nabbed multiple Emmy nominations this year, and for good reason. This awesome comedy about young professional women is smart, funny, and a true auteur project.
Gary Oldman’s transformative work as Winston Churchill is astounding, and with the meaty fall movies on the horizon, Darkest Hour is the perfect film to ease you back into a serious mood after a long summer of blockbusters.
This week on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and HBO won’t disappoint. Now that you know what to watch, make sure to clear your calendar!
