The best science fiction opens up your mind to ideas you’d never considered before and either rock you to your core with fear and dread or stirs your imagination, your sense of adventure, and your curiosity. The trouble is, good science fiction can be hard to come by, and sci-fi that stands the test of time is even rarer.

Luckily for fans, Hulu has a great line-up of sci-fi offerings right now. Here are some of our picks!

  1. Star Trek: Beyond

A follow-up to the Star Trek reboot, 2016’s Star Trek: Beyond comes during a crash-landing of the Enterprise which introduces all of our favorite characters to a strange unknown world.

  1. The Terminator

If you’ve never seen the original Terminator, now is the time to get on board. The story goes that a man named Kyle Reese is sent back in time (to 1984) to protect a woman named Sarah Connor. Sarah doesn’t know it yet, but her unborn son will lead humanity’s fight against Skynet, an artificial intelligence system responsible for bringing about nuclear holocaust.

  1. The Osiris Child

The Osiris Child is an emotional story of a father trying desperately to get to his daughter during a time of interplanetary colonization.

  1. Curvature

This time-travel based sci-fi flick by director Diego Hallivis stars Lyndsy Fonseca as a scientist who travels back in time to prevent a murder after receiving a call from her future self.

  1. Unbreakable

With the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan film Glass set to premiere in 2019, it’s the perfect time to catch up with the first film in this series, Unbreakable. Starring Bruce Willis as a man who is quite literally unbreakable, this film was followed up by 2017’s Split.

  1. Thelma

This foreign-language film is a sleek and sophisticated look at one girl who begins to develop supernatural abilities after a series of debilitating seizures.

  1. Arrival

When aliens appear in movies, the question of how to communicate with them is often central to the storyline. No more is this true than in 2016’s mesmerizing and artistic sci-fi film, Arrival.

  1. The First

This Hulu drama series starring Sean Penn and Natascha McElhone. The series follows a crew of astronauts who have agreed to be the first humans to explore Mars.

  1. Higher Power

When a scientist kidnaps a family in order to use them as test subjects in order to save the planet. While this film’s budget is clearly on a shoestring, the movie itself is definitely one with a lot of thought behind it and is certainly worth watching.

  1. Signs

One of M. Night Shyamalan’s early films, Signs is about a family in mourning while also dealing with the very real possibility of an impending alien invasion. Set in a sleepy town in Shyamalan’s favorite playground, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, the movie is quietly claustrophobic as it deals with the phenomenon strictly from the point of view of a close-knit family.
