Hulu appears to be taking a quality over quantity approach to horror. The streaming site doesn’t have a vast library of scary titles to choose from, but what they do have tends to be top-notch. The scariest movies on Hulu include a combination of classics, cult favorites, and a few hidden gems. Whether you want to indulge in the always unnerving imagination of Stephen King or you’re looking for a more modern approach to horror, Hulu has you covered.

The following 10 movies are some of the scariest ones streaming on Hulu at the moment. And thankfully, the scares range from goosebump-inducing to gross-out masterpieces, so there’s something for every type of horror fan. Dim the lights and grab a blanket, because these spooky movies are guaranteed to give you chills.

1. Children of the Corn

Few things are quite as frightening as creepy children. Children of the Corn is set in a small town where a charismatic young preacher has convinced his fellow kids to murder all of the adults. Out of this horror show, they’ve created their own society that an unlucky couple stumbles upon when they find a dead body in the road and attempt to contact the police.

2. Jeepers Creepers

This early ’00s monster movie is delightfully self-aware post-Scream horror film about a brother and sister whose road trip goes terribly wrong. The duo makes the mistake of stopping when they see a man dumping what appears to be bodies down a hole. Soon they find themselves being terrorized by a relentless creature that comes out to feast every 23 years.

3. Hellraiser

Pinhead is one of the horror genre’s most iconic monsters, and he got his start in Hellraiser. The film follows Frank, a man who returns from the dead via demons and is working to recreate his body. It’s weird, disturbing, and a must for ’80s horror fans.

4. Let the Right One In

Beautiful and chilling, Let the Right One In tells the story of an eternally young vampire and the little boy she befriends. While this foreign film has moments of terror, it’s just as likely to make you feel melancholy and immensely satisfied with its touching story.

5. V/H/S

V/H/S has the perfect framework for a new age horror anthology film. A group of thieves breaks into a home to steal a VHS tape. What they find is a series of videos featuring horrific sights. Broken into four segments, including the framing device, the film includes shorts directed by Ti West, Adam Wingard, and Joe Swanberg.

6. Carrie

Forget the remake, nothing can compare to the original 1976 Carrie. Sissy Spacek is phenomenal as the titular bullied teen who discovers she possesses some serious powers. And yes, the prom scene still holds up.

7. The House October Built

Your mileage may vary with this one, but if haunted houses freak you out, then The House October Built is pure nightmare fuel. Filmed in the found footage style, the movie follows a group of friends looking for the ultimate Halloween attraction, and you better believe they find it.

8. Honeymoon

A newlywed couple’s honeymoon goes south fast when the bride goes out into the woods and comes back… changed. Honeymoon is the kind of low-budget horror film that gets under your skin with a growing sense of dread and excellent actors (Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway).

9. Paranormal Activity

Forget the sequels, the first Paranormal Activity remains the scariest on the strength of its simple premise alone. A couple begins experiencing strange happenings in their modern home, so they set up a camera. What they capture is subtly chilling evidence that something is in their house.

10. The ABCs of Death

Not all of the short films in The ABCs of Death are great, but there are definite standouts in the 26 short films. The only thing that ties them all together is the theme of death, but otherwise, some the best minds in horror were given total freedom to create whatever kind of story they wanted.

The next time you’re in the mood for a horror treat, check out Hulu — the site has way more spooky choices than you think.
