Reelgood 4.0 for iOS: Roulette, new services, recommendations, alerts, and new UI for search, tracking and discovery

Today, Friday, October 5, we’re releasing the biggest update to our iPhone app yet.

“Reelgood 4.0 is the culmination of all we’ve learned about how people watch and the increasingly fragmented streaming world, ” said Eli Chamberlin, Reelgood’s head of product and design. “Our aim with this release was to take all the streaming content out there, and display it in the most meaningful way possible so that people can get the most out of their existing streaming services without wasting countless hours browsing.”

Here’s what users can expect in the new version:

Roulette for every streaming service

Reelgood Roulette is a new feature in this latest version.

The massive libraries of Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Prime, and other streaming services can be overwhelming when you don’t know what you want to watch. Sometimes, only a random suggestion will do.

How to use it: Go to the Discover tab, and give your device a good shake!

Netflix Roulette was originally created by Andrew Sampson, and it became an instant hit. In 2017, Reelgood acquired the rights and updated the service to include multiple streaming services, and more filtering options, like cast and crew, IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes filtering.

Addition of 50+ streaming services

Users of more niche streaming service such as IndieFlix, Film Struck, Shudder, Fandor, Crunchyroll, Starz, Mubi, AcornTV, and many more are now supported with this latest release.

Users can see what’s new and what’s leaving across each streaming service and browse the libraries of hundreds of streaming services, as they have been able to do on desktop.

Because You Watched

Personalized recommendations are now served up on iOS. Because You Watched is tied to your watch history, so the more tracking you do, the better these recommendations get and figuring out what you should watch next.

Search by Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb scores, cast and crew

What are Meryl Streep’s top-rated movies? What’s a great drama series that has an IMDB score of at least 8.0, and came out in the last three years?

Our new filtering and search are designed around how we’re seeing our users looking for content on desktop every night.

Curated collections around tags, genres, what’s been recently added to services and cast/crew

Now, iOS users can browse collections like 2018 Emmy Nominees, IMDb’s Top 250 Movies, originals, dark comedies, British humour, and more.

Alerts for movies/shows you’re interested in becoming available on your services

“On top of this discovery layer, we’ve built tracking features so that we can help eliminate nightly decision-making altogether,” says Eli Chamberlin. “Simply add the movies & shows your friends have been bugging you to watch or that you just saw a great trailer for and when they come to your services, Reelgood will let you know they’re ready to watch. In addition to all of this, we’ve launched better accessibility and support for iPad, and iPhone X screen sizes and gestures.”

Track a movie or show, and you’ll be notified when it comes to one of your streaming services, or when it becomes available to rent or buy.

New UI for easier search, discovery, and tracking of all your favorite shows/movies across all your services

The new app has a redesigned interface for easier search, discovery, and tracking of all your favorite shows and movies across all your streaming services.
