Everything We Know About Paul Rudd’s Role in Netflix’s Upcoming Series ‘Living With Yourself’

It’s impossible not to love Paul Rudd if you’ve experienced his funny, boyish charm in hits like Clueless, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and yes, Ant-Man. As any Ruddian knows, the star is no stranger when it comes to Netflix originals. He’s been involved in movies such as Mute and The Fundamentals of Caring, in addition to the prequel and sequel series adaptation of the raunchy cult film Wet Hot American Summer. Anyway, if you’ve kept up with his work on Netflix, you’re going to be in for a treat. Rudd will soon expand his relationship with Netflix by leading the upcoming scripted comedy series Living With Yourself.

What will the story be about?

Living With Yourself will span over eight episodes, featuring a plot that’s reminiscent of a crossover between The Good Place and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Rudd plays George Elliot, a man who struggles with his life and undergoes a treatment to become a better person. A new and improved version of himself, a character who Rudd will also depict, replaces him. Netflix calls it a “fresh and inventive” philosophical comedy about self-reinvention that shows people how they can be their worst enemy.

Who will run the project?

Rudd will be both an actor and executive producer on Living With Yourself. So far, there’s no information about the rest of the cast. But we can rest assured knowing the incredibly talented showrunners, producers, and directors involved. The series was created by Emmy and Peabody winner Timothy Greenberg, who served as executive producer at The Daily Show with Jon Stewart for 10 years. In February 2017, AMC’s IFC originally ordered the series from Greenberg, but the project did not move forward from the pilot. As early as February of this year, Netflix started negotiating deals for Living With Yourself.

Besides Greenberg, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will co-lead as executive producers and directors on the show. Movie buffs might be familiar with the Oscar-nominated husband and wife team for their work in critical darlings such as Little Miss Sunshine and Battle of the Sexes. Also attached to the project as an executive producer is Jeffrey Blitz, who directed several episodes of The Office, including the Emmy-winning “Stress Relief.”

Do we have a release date?

Unfortunately, we don’t have any information about a release date. It’s likely that production for the movie hasn’t even started yet since we only know one member of the cast so far. Generally, Netflix announces new shows and seasons roughly a year before they come out. It’s safe to say that it could be an agonizing wait before we get a teaser or trailer.

For now, we’ll just have to be patient. Even if you’ve already made a significant dent in Rudd’s oeuvre, there are still plenty of philosophical comedies to watch. Besides The Good Place, some of our favorites include You, Me, and the Apocalypse, Pushing Daisies, and Rick and Morty.
