Bask in The Glory of NFL Draft Day with These 7 Football Movies

“Leatherheads” from Smokehouse Pictures

It’s NFL draft day people! You know what that means – time to start taking notes for your fantasy football picks for the fall! (Or in my case, re-watching episodes of Friday Night Lights.) Professional football is America’s favorite sport to watch and even if you aren’t the biggest fan, it’s hard to resist a good football movie!

In celebration of NFL draft day, here are 7 nail-biting football films that you can stream while you patiently wait for kick-off.

Draft Day – Rent or buy from $1.99 and up.

2014’s Draft Day stars Kevin Costner as Sonny, general manager of the Cleveland Browns. With the threat of getting fired looming over him, Sonny struggles to stay focused as NFL draft day approaches and his team’s fate is on the line.

The Replacements – Amazon Prime

When a fictional NFL team finds itself in the middle of a players strike mid-season, the team owner is desperate for players and calls in coach Jimmy McGinty played by Gene Hackman. McGinty must scramble to put together a workable team in one week’s time, with Keanu Reeves leading the new team as a washed-up QB.

Invincible – Cinemax

Fly, Eagles, fly! In the 1970s, the Eagles held open tryouts. A long-time fan and bartender by the name of Vince Papale, played by Mark Wahlberg, shocks everyone by making the team.

Any Given Sunday – Cinemax

Starring Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, James Woods, LL Cool J, and Dennis Quaid, Any Given Sunday is an all-star affair from legendary director Oliver Stone. The movie is about a struggling team trying to make the playoffs.

The Blind Side – DirecTV Now

Directed by John Lee Hancock and starring Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side is the true story of Michael Oher and his journey from homeless teenager to NFL draft pick. It’s also worth noting that Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her portrayal of Oher’s adoptive mother, Leigh Anne Tuohy.

Leatherheads – Rent or buy from $2.99 and up.

Leatherheads is a comedy starring George Clooney, John Krasinski, and Renee Zellweger about the very early days of professional football. Certainly the most light-hearted of the bunch, this movie is a super fun watch that even non-football fans will love.

Rudy –  Starz

All Rudy ever dreamed about was playing football for Notre Dame.  With lower than average grades and a smaller than usual build, this glorious tale shows us just what happens when a man with an unbeatable drive and an indomitable spirit sets off to conquer his biggest challenge yet.
