Boorman and the Devil Synopsis

Following the success of Point Blank and Deliverance, director John Boorman accepted Warner Bros.’ offer to continue the story of the groundbreaking horror classic The Exorcist (1973). What began as an ambitious creative project soon became one of Hollywood’s most notorious cinematic failures. Through personal interviews, Boorman recalls the difficult production, constant script changes, technical challenges, and disastrous audience reactions. Actors Linda Blair and Louise Fletcher share their experiences, revealing the confusion and unexpected humor behind the troubled sequel. Filmmakers Mike Flanagan, Karyn Kusama, and Joe Dante also examine the movie’s artistic ambitions and controversial legacy. Ultimately, this compelling documentary explores creative risk, Hollywood failure, and artistic redemption, questioning whether an unsuccessful film can still deserve appreciation.
