Capturing Bigfoot (2026) Synopsis
Capturing Bigfoot is a 2026 American documentary film directed by Marq Evans. The film explores the story behind the famous Patterson–Gimlin film, a short recording made on October 20, 1967, that allegedly shows Bigfoot walking through a forest in Northern California.
The documentary revisits the footage captured by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin, which has remained the subject of debate for decades. Nearly six decades later, the discovery of a previously unseen reel of 16mm film leads to a new examination of the recording and the people involved.
Featuring Roger Patterson’s son Clint Patterson, Bob Gimlin, Bob Heironimus, Patricia Patterson, and several researchers, the film explores the history of the footage, conflicting accounts surrounding its creation, and the personal relationships affected by the controversy. It also examines Patterson’s family legacy and the continuing debate over whether the creature captured on film was real.
