Set in a near-future Los Angeles, the film follows Samantha Lake (Elisabeth Moss), a fading Hollywood actress who turns to a radical rejuvenation treatment offered by a sleek biotech startup promising eternal youth. The company, led by the magnetic Zoe Shannon (Kate Hudson), invites Samantha to become the face of its cutting-edge “Shell” program — a technology that can regenerate skin, replace aging organs, and, allegedly, preserve the soul.
As Samantha undergoes the procedure, the film spirals into surreal horror. Her transformation becomes grotesque, both physically and psychologically, forcing her to confront fame’s illusion, exploitation in the entertainment industry, and the price of chasing eternal beauty. Beneath its satire, Shell probes how far society will go to stay relevant in a world where identity is a commodity.
